Carbure de silicium vert

Carbure de silicium vert (SiC) is a highly pure, premium-quality variant of silicon carbide, distinguished by its green color. Produced through the Acheson process, green SiC is obtained by heating a mixture of high-purity silica sand and petroleum coke in the presence of trace amounts of iron. This results in a material with exceptional hardness and a higher purity level compared to black SiC.

Owing to its superior hardness, green SiC is primarily utilized as an abrasive material for high-precision grinding and polishing applications in the automotive, aerospace, and electronics industries. It is also employed in the production of cutting tools, grinding wheels, and abrasive papers, where its pure composition ensures minimal contamination and smoother finishes.

En outre, green SiC has found use in advanced electronics and semiconductor devices, thanks to its excellent thermal and electrical properties. Its high purity makes it a preferred choice for manufacturing critical components in high-voltage power electronics, optoelectronics, and high-frequency devices. Green SiC also plays a role in the fabrication of wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials, as well as in the development of advanced ceramic components.

Features

  • Hardness: Green Silicon Carbide possesses a Mohs hardness of 9.5, making it an effective abrasive material for cutting, grinding, and polishing.
  • Purity: Green Silicon Carbide is known for its higher purity compared to Black Silicon Carbide, as it contains fewer impurities, such as iron and carbon. This characteristic makes it suitable for applications requiring high-quality, precision finishes.
  • Friability: Green Silicon Carbide is more friable than Black Silicon Carbide, which means it breaks down more easily during use. This property allows for a continuous exposure of sharp edges and makes it ideal for precision grinding applications.
  • High thermal conductivity: Similar to Black Silicon Carbide, Green Silicon Carbide also has excellent thermal conductivity due to its strong covalent bonds and crystalline structure.
  • Chemical resistance: Green Silicon Carbide is resistant to chemicals, acids, and alkalis, making it suitable for use in chemically harsh environments.

Applications

  • Abrasifs: Green Silicon Carbide is commonly used in the manufacturing of grinding wheels, sandpapers, and cutting tools, particularly for applications requiring precision and high-quality finishes.
  • Lapping and polishing: Carbure de silicium vert’s friability makes it a popular choice for lapping and polishing operations, including the polishing of gems, glass, and semiconductor materials.
  • Advanced ceramics: Due to its high purity, Green Silicon Carbide is often used as an additive in the production of advanced ceramics to improve their mechanical properties and wear resistance.
  • Electronics: Carbure de silicium vert’s semiconducting properties make it suitable for use in power electronics, such as high-voltage power transistors and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

FAQ

20 Ton

Silicon carbide abrasives are harder and sharper than aluminum oxide abrasives, making them more aggressive and faster cutting. Cependant, they are also more brittle, which can lead to faster breakdown and shorter abrasive life.

Grit sizes for silicon carbide abrasives range from coarse (24 grit) to ultrafine (1200 grit) and are used for different applications, from rapid material removal to precision polishing.

To choose the right silicon carbide abrasive, consider factors like the material being worked on, the desired finish, the abrasive life, and the equipment being used. Generally, harder materials require finer grits, while softer materials can be worked with coarser grits.
